Integrate Google Workspace calendars

Last updated: May 12, 2026

Kinfolk can create calendar events directly in your employees' Google Calendars, ensuring they don't miss important moments and have time blocked automatically.

What you can do with this integration

  • 1-to-1 meetings Automatically schedule onboarding check-ins, manager introductions, and other individual meetings

  • Cohort meetings Book group sessions for new hire orientations, training, or team events

How it works

Kinfolk connects to your Google Workspace using a service account, a special type of Google account designed for applications to access Google APIs securely. Once configured, Kinfolk can create and manage calendar events on behalf of your employees.

What you'll need

  • Google Workspace admin access for creating service accounts in Google Cloud Platform

  • Super Administrator permissions to set up domain-wide delegation in Google Workspace (learn more)

  • SuperAdmin access in Kinfolk

Step 1: Google Workspace Service Accounts Set Up in Google Cloud platform

  1. Open Service Accounts in Google Cloud Platform

  2. Select an existing project or create a new one

Tip: We recommend creating a dedicated project with a clear name, such as Kinfolk-Calendar-Integration, so other admins can easily identify its purpose.

  1. Go to IAM and Admin → Service Accounts → Create Service Account

  2. Fill in the following fields:

    • Service account name

    • Service account ID

    • Service account description

  3. Click Create and Continue

  4. Skip the optional steps for granting project access and user access

  5. Click on the newly created service account and go to the Keys tab

  6. Click Add Key → Create new key

  7. Select JSON as the format and click Create

A JSON file will download automatically. Keep this file secure as you'll need it later. Make a note of the client_id from the JSON file for Step 2.

Step 2: Enable the Google Calendar API

  1. Open the Google Cloud Console and select the project you created in Step 1

  2. Go to APIs and Services → Enabled APIs and Services

  3. Click + Enable APIs and Services

  4. Search for Google Calendar API

  5. Click Enable

Step 3: Set up domain-wide delegation

Note: This step requires Super Administrator permissions in Google Workspace. If you don't have access, forward these instructions to someone who does.

  1. Go to the Google Workspace Admin Console

  2. Navigate to Security → Access and data control → API controls

  3. Under Domain-wide delegation, click Manage Domain-Wide Delegation

  4. Click Add New

  5. Enter the Client ID from the JSON file you downloaded in Step 1

  6. In the OAuth scopes field, paste the following (comma-separated):

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.email,
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/userinfo.profile,
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar,
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/admin.directory.user.readonly,
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/admin.directory.resource.calendar,
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/admin.directory.user
  1. Click Authorise

Note: Changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate, but typically happen within a few minutes.

Step 4: Add credentials in Kinfolk

  1. Go to Settings in Kinfolk

  2. Select the Integrations tab and scroll to Google Calendar

  3. Enter the following values from your JSON file:

    • Client Email: Copy the value of client_email

    • Private Key: Copy everything inside the quotation marks for private_key (exclude the quotation marks themselves)

  4. Click Save

You're all set!

Kinfolk can now create Google Calendar events on behalf of your employees. Calendar invites will be sent automatically based on your configured workflows.
